McCann first got noticed as the institutionalized friend of Alan Arkin in the 1968 film “The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter,” but really became popular with a hilarious Right Guard commercial in 1971 with commercial stalwart Bill Fiore. His career launched from there. It is good that we can celebrate his life and work. He actually was already famous in New York City and at least 100 miles around. I have very early memories and I remember him at least as early as 1964 as the host of a regular children's program on channel 5 in NYC. I grew up watching Chuck McCann. Sad to hear of his passing. |
