Possibly. The Cloverfield Monster was kinda scary and he was CGI.
Is this thread about Thanos? He's not scary but is he really meant to be?
Either way I think practical effects are better for this kind of thing. I also think that regular insane humans are scarier than any kind of monster type.
I'd rather be in a room with Thanos or Ultron than Joker.
