I really do like First Contact, thanks in large part to Patrick Stewart, who has a commanding presence and is so well suited to dramatic moments, and the guy who plays Data (who does a great impersonation of Stewart, check out on Youtube for a good laugh). It's the only TNG film I own. The weakness here is the rest of the crew, who seem uneasy on the big screen. Credit to Frakes, though, who does a fine job directing. Love the Goldsmith score.
But Wrath of Khan is not only the best Trek film (narrowly edging out STTMP DC) but one of the best SF films ever made. It is such a well made film, beautifully acted, flawless pacing, the best villain, great Horner score and even though the effects are not all that incredible, they are still more than good enough not to distract. The final showdown in the Mutara nebula is brilliantly done. This is the one Star Trek film I think most will agree deserves to be called a film classic.
