No, it’s because Iron Fist was boring. Doctor Strange and Iron Man 3 whitewashed orient characters, remember? Dr Strange pulled it off because Magic is not something as associated with Orientalism as Kung Fu is, and his hidden Mystic Temple was clearly shown to be a multicultural place. Iron Fist took a clearly Asian thing and gave us a stereotypical Magical Asian City as well. Iron Man 3 took an Oriental character and made him Middle-Eastern, so it's still not whitewashing. As for Defenders, it wasn't just Iron Fist. The marketing was bad for the show, so people who only liked DD but not the others/JJ but not the others/Luke Cage but not the others didn't realize that they didn't have to watch all the MCU Netflix shows to understand Defenders. Uh, the magic in Doctor Strange was asiatic, the temple had an asiatic look to it, and the clothing. There is mentionings of chakra and the third eye telling you it’s asiatic magic. Middle-Easterns are considered casucasian and the true Mandarin in the film was played by Guy Pearce, a white man.
