Technically what they said was right it is a new interpretation of Supergirl as she's never really been a female Clark before, she's been more pure and happy back in the day when comics had to always be sunshine and rainbows, but she was never a carbon copy of her cousin, so whilst this isn't an original interpretation it is a new interpretation of the character, semantics I know but still technically correct.
