I've seen one twice in my life. One was last year in my backyard. I was walking towards my back door when one flew right in front of me and landed on the side of the house. I didn't think it was a mantis at first because I didn't even know they could fly! No doubt when I got an up-close look at it, though. Always thought they were really cool insects. Remember seeing one take down a scorpion on a nature documentary once. We get lots here, I have been lucky enough to see a egg sack burst twice, and hundreds of tiny little mantis' come out. Never seen that with Mantis, but I've seen it with a spider. We had hundreds of baby spiders crawling all over a tarp we had outside once when I was a kid. I think I even took some pics of it.
