Just caught it last night on TCM. It was based off the same Hemingway novel as TO HAVE AND TO HAVE NOT (1944) but supposedly more faithful than the latter. Starring John Garfield and Patricia Neal, it's about a boat captain forced into criminal activity and the pressure keeps piling up on him.
I've been mentioning Michael Curtiz a lot lately and this is one of the later one of his films I've seen. Great acting all the way around, from Garfield and Neal to supporters like Phyllis Thaxter and Juano Hernandez; even the child actors are solid. Patricia Neal especially was dynamite as the sultry Leona Charles.
