Toole's natural writing talent was extraordinary. I am kinda amazed no one has adapted it to film. There have been several attempts to bring the book to the screen over the years. One theory for its failure to get made is that it's "cursed." Not only did Toole commit suicide before the book was published, but several actors considered for the lead role died, as well as a few other people connected with various productions (and also Hurricane Katrina played a factor). |
