Toole's natural writing talent was extraordinary. I am kinda amazed no one has adapted it to film. There have been several attempts to bring the book to the screen over the years. One theory for its failure to get made is that it's "cursed." Not only did Toole commit suicide before the book was published, but several actors considered for the lead role died, as well as a few other people connected with various productions (and also Hurricane Katrina played a factor). I had never heard about any 'curse'. That is kinda bizarre, though I have never really followed it. I think Toole committed suicide about 10 years before it was published, thanks in large part to his mother, I think? I'm too lazy right now to even look it up. But thinking about a movie makes me wonder who could play Ignatius and his mother and all the rest of the colorful characters.
