Oh, I dunno. Most science fiction from the 19th to past the mid-20th century centered around space travel, space aliens, and everybody having a personal jet pack for flying. Who suspected that humans would have just barely reached the moon a few times by the end of the second decade of the 21st century. Computers where predicted to a certain extent but hardly ever did anyone conceive of a powerful computer in each home? Did any writer conceive of the information age we are in right now - that is someone who wrote before it began? Science fiction just doesn't have a very good track record for predicting the future. Jet pack? Screw jet packs, I want my 600mph magnetic passenger missile! Or at leat my little scooter thing...
