Another great post, petro. I swear I don't know how you do it! I'm a big fan of this film - the story, the cast, and the director. Thanks for filling in so many blanks about its background. Oh, and btw, I don't know who Carroll Baker is playing chess with, but it is definitely not Elia Kazan. Slightly OT, but you'll probably enjoy it, I studied for awhile with Baker's ex-husband, Jack Garfien. And he told a great story about Kazan directing Carroll in BABY DOLL (Jack was on the set, so he witnessed it). Kazan handled her with kid gloves and much love, while he often yelled at Karl Malden. When Jack asked him why, he said it was because Karl was raised in a house with a lot of yelling and needed that to feel comfortable, whereas Carroll needed sensitivity and tenderness. That's one of the reasons Kazan was such a great actor's director, because he took the time to understand the psychological needs of each of his actors. Anyway, I wish I could tell you who that is with her, but I only know it's not Kazan. Thanks again for the great post. Hi spiderwort. (Time on my hands and a day off work tomorrow ) I was looking at loads of pictures on google image of Elia Kazan, thinking, "Is that really him?", like the photo caption says? Good news is I think I know who it is now, a painter, Elias Kanarek (I've edited this in - thanks so much!) Great Jack Garfein story.
