I'm not sure about your reasoning, but definitely Marvel did not expect it. NO ONE expected it! I sure didn't!

BP Made at least 200 million more than it should have! If it had made only 400 mill it still would have been a monster hit and talked about as amazing. But it breaking 600 mil domestic is out of this world.

I'm happy for it's success, but a lot of factors, other than it just being a good movie, helped make it so successful.
