Based on artistic merit, dreddio. Love them or hate them, these films stand for imagination and originality. They tell an original story about a democracy falling over itself into totalitarism, and the corruption and rise of demagogues. The Disney films are commercial rehashes without imagination or artistic value of their own.
I would not expect a Disney shill like you to have the brains to realize that.
I agree with the fact that the prequels have a lot of imagination and originality. The world building is so extremely good and the basic premise and expansion of the Star Wars world is fantastic. It makes the fact that I'm disappointed with the end result even more painful. For all of its creativity, the execution (especially in episode 1 & 2) is not good imo, especially in the dialogue department. I still consider the prequels the prime example of 'could've been masterpieces'. I'm convinced the ideas Lucas has, the overall arcs, plot lines, themes and parallels could, with the right direction, even rival the OT. I just wish he would've been a creative director, the one who comes up with the basic story and the worldbuilding. A prequel trilogy envisioned by Lucas, not written by Lucas and directed by someone like Spielberg would've been a masterpiece. I hear you, but do not fully agree on execution. Dialogue (and acting) are peculiar and mixed as in all Star Wars. BUT it's very memorabe and quotable (unlike 99% of Hollywood movies). Bits like "There is always a bigger fish", "You may go home and rethink your life", "This is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause", or "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" etc are brilliant one liners.
But I would not have been opposed to Lucas being limited to creative director and mastermind (provided there is a good people-director who understands the cinematic style of SW)
