He has a language, but it's like Chewbacca's where you have to understand the inflections.
Except, unlike Chewbacca, Groot has vocal chords that allow him any number of combinations but he still can only say I am Groot.
If it's a language, then his whole race has the same problem. Until Thor said that, I assumed he was special.
