That's one I really need to revisit with along with other 1970s Nicholson movies The Last Detail and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Easy Rider (1969) is also one that I will hoghly recommend. Two scenes in that movie really shocked me. It was first seriously good performance by Nicholson though he had a very limited screen time.
Another movie that disturbed me Luis Bunuel's Viridiana and also Los Olvidados (1950) (Young and the damned is English title if I recall correctly).
