Not a single threat in their lineup, he'd be pitched around & around & around. With Donaldson starting, he'd be DH'ing, killing his development in the field. They want him to become a more all around player, not just a hitter.
You're also trading service time when he's in his prime aged 25-26 for his age 19 when this season is already lost due to pitching pain & matters nothing to anyone.
He'll be up for some at bats in September & starting next May.
