...and I can, and have post links that give various estimates from 2% to 15% some of them from the Vatican itself. A reasonable person would acknowledge that the problem has been secret for so many decades if not centuries, that accurate figures would be nigh on impossible. To underestimate IMHO is a worse scenario than to over-estimate, as underestimation has been the 'status quo' for a very long time. I will stick to Australia where we have the most recent results of a Royal Commission.

So current FACTS.
1880 our of the total number of priests and consecrated life in Australia. There are seven archdioceses and 32 dioceses, with an estimated 3,000 priests and 9,000 men and women in institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life
You do the maths. Misinformation?
Big word there, alleged.
sorry, but I accept that there is a good case for pedophiles to be attracted to the priesthood, but a factor of times 2 or even 3 seems reasonable, 40% is 1000 times the rate in standard population, unless this is a cult that has child abuse as part of its culture (which exist, but I do not think are part of the discussion) then that stat is very questionable.

Yes, I started out justifying my previous estimates and then researched the current just released stats in findings of the recent Royal Commission. IMHO though I am not a statistician, the percentages for the relevant orders is more possible and my reasoning for the 40% not being accurate is that some/many of the complaints are historical and don't apply to current member of the 10,000 or so of consecrated individuals. Nevertheless the result is alarming and worse than even I or anyone else in Australia, had expected. In a sense it had actually become a 'cult' here due to there being no consequences, coverups and moving of those participants....a secret society of pedo priests, if you like, that neither the hierarchy nor the church leaders up to the very top, made any efforts to curb./quote]
