I think maybe some of them felt like they didn't want to be pigeon holed into just being these characters forever, and hoped they could go on to be more than that, some have, some haven't but regardless they are still seen as these characters, DB for instance spent 12 years playing Seely Booth but he will always be Angel to me, SMG has done a lot of stuff but she will always be Buffy and AH has never stopped being Willow to me even when she was doing HIMYM.
At this point though an animated show or series of films would be great we could keep the actors who made their characters so great and no one needs to worry about having gotten older, plus they can just adapt and enhance the comics so like Buffy in animated form could have a 5 year run already set up, Angel would have a similar thing and we could get 1 off series like the Spike run and shit.
Plus I would think they would love to do this because they seem like a lot of them got along and liked one another so it would be a chance to work with each other again, still I wish we had gotten a Faith spin off, she was such a fun character.
