All the Money in the World (2017) / Ridley Scott The story, alone, pulled me though this movie. I hate the new technology that makes a story look like a murky sparsely-colored dream. I like movies that were filmed on actual lots or actual locations. I like colors that are real, not symbolically toned or chromatically false. I like dramas when characters and acting were really in the forefront..not set in some visual mural. In much of this movie, I could not see the actors expressions or reaction shots. Look at this phony, dark trailer:
But, after criticizing All the Money in the World (2017) for using all these techniques, I realize that all the nominees for last year used the same techniques: Dunkirk (2017), Darkest Hour (2017), I, Tonya (2017) and The Shape of Water (2017) all did the same things. The difference is that I expected it with the movie I loved the most: The Shape of Water (2017). Sometimes, our likes depend on veering off from, or giving us, what we expect.
