There’s been a lot of talk in the NY tabloids and on NY sports radio about the Yanks putting together a trade package for Jacob deGrom. Clint Frazier, Tyler Austin, Tyler Wade, Miguel Andujar, Dellin Betances and Justus Sheffield are all names that have come up. Of course the Mets would ask for Gleyber Torres but the Yankees are not going to part with him. The funny thing is, a lot of Met fans think the team should move deGrom too. He’s wasting his prime on a shit team. There are others who say they’re three seasons removed from making the World Series, but Matt Harvey went to shit, Syndergaard can’t stay healthy, Wheeler is terrible, and the Mets’ marquee offseason signing was Todd Frasier, a guy who hits .240 on a good year. I can’t see the Mets trading DeGrom. Club still has three years of control. They are looking like a 4th place team for a while with the Braves and Phils looking and Washington still talented with or without Harper. Even if the do tear it down, I can’t see him going to the Bronx. They have to fight the Yankees for NY. But the Yankees can offer the most return. It’s true they don’t like to deal directly with each other, but on the other hand the Mets wouldn’t be dealing an ace to another team in their division or even within the National League. If they dealt deGrom to the Yanks they’d maybe face him once a year. And as you pointed out, the Yankees are rich in prospects. The Yanks have made some dumb deals over the years and I don’t like the Stanton trade and being in the hook for that massive contract, but credit where it’s due — Cashman turned shit to good by tearing down for less than half a season. There’s no reason the Mets can’t do the same, although not with Alderson.
