I can’t see the Mets trading DeGrom. Club still has three years of control. They are looking like a 4th place team for a while with the Braves and Phils looking and Washington still talented with or without Harper. Even if the do tear it down, I can’t see him going to the Bronx. They have to fight the Yankees for NY. But the Yankees can offer the most return. It’s true they don’t like to deal directly with each other, but on the other hand the Mets wouldn’t be dealing an ace to another team in their division or even within the National League. If they dealt deGrom to the Yanks they’d maybe face him once a year. And as you pointed out, the Yankees are rich in prospects. The Yanks have made some dumb deals over the years and I don’t like the Stanton trade and being in the hook for that massive contract, but credit where it’s due — Cashman turned shit to good by tearing down for less than half a season. There’s no reason the Mets can’t do the same, although not with Alderson. Yankees have made some great deals. They gave up nothing for Chapman, got a fortune from the Cubs for a rental then got him back. And Stanton didn’t cost them a prospect. I think the Mets will want a high level starting pitching prospect for DeGrom, which the Yankees don’t have. I just can’t see the Mets having a fire sale. They have too much young talent, Nimmo, Conforto, Rosario, Matz. They could flip DeGrom for a sweet deal, but a starter would have to be included. Yanks will I’ll have to get another top flight starter. Their rotation can’t match Houston’s. Gray sucks, Montgomery isn’t reliable, neither is Tanaka and CC is old.
