Right now, Harper isn't playing at a $400,000,000 level. Big power but a .227 BA? And they have Victor Robles waiting for a job. Strasburg can opt out after this year. If I'm the Nationals, I'm wishing Bryce well at his new job. The one difference is, Harper is 25 and Pujols was 31 when he walked. Has a single one of those gargantuan long term deals worked out in the team’s favor? Maybe for a year or two, but then you’re stuck with aging injured players like Ryan Howard, Albert Pujols, and Miguel Cabrera. Trout would be the only player I’d give that kind of money too, but like you said, maybe whatever team sign Harper will get some return on investment due to his younger age. Not really, which is why some players were bitching about the lack of action in the offseason, and we’re probably gonna hear a lot more complaining this offseason. Jake Arrieta was looking for 7 years and $200 million +, and ended up with three years at $75 mil from Philly. The Diamondbacks are fucked with that absurd deal they gave Greinke: They’ll pay him $32 million a year until he’s 38, and he’s already failed to meet expectations. But the worst of the worst has to be Albert Pujols. The Cardinals were smart, and Pujols’ wife whined in the press that their offer was “an insult.” The Angels we’re suckers, crippled their franchise, and they STILL owe him $100 million over the next three seasons! Even worse, the fucker lied about his age: He will be 42 by the time the Angels get rid of him, but in reality he will be 45 years old. Imagine the talent they could have put around Mike Trout if they didn’t sign Pujols?
