All genres have their goofy cliches. My favorite western one is where 2 guys are having a "fast draw" and one guy gets his gun out first and the other guy some how sees this and is able to react so fast that he stops mid draw with his own gun half way out of the holster. Now even if your brain worked fast enough to notice that his gun is already out and stop yourself mid draw, why would you? Are you going to assume he won't shoot you? Do you even think the other guy's brain works fast enough to stop him from shooting? Wouldn't it be better to just draw and shoot anyway and hope his first shot misses?
And wouldn't the faster guy not wait to see if the other guy is going to stop when he sees that your gun is already out?
