I saw this movie last October as part of TCM's horror marathon hosted by Ron Pearlman, it had been a few years since I'd seen it so I forgot that the whole movie was (SPOILER) the rambling of a madman. Which sadly did explain why the staff was so quick to believe Francis about the doctor, which before the twist I thought was a nice relief that they didn't shut that idea down with 'he's a brilliant doctor, he could never do such a thing'.
Now it's my understanding that this movie WAS remade, maybe more than once, I'm not sure, I've never heard of the remake version so can't comment. But my only thought is I wonder how a remake would be if they DIDN'T have that twist, and went with the idea the whole story is what actually happened.
