Bryan Singer returned to make the best Xmen film to date after First Class. And if he had his motivation and licence to do what he wanted, Apocalypse would have bettered DOFP. I heard Vaughn had some input in the writing for DOFP. Maybe that's why DOFP was way better than Apocalypse. Singer had a hand in First Class too, then vice versa for DOFP with Vaughn. For Apocalypse, there were many reports saying Singer lost interest in making the film halfway through as he rarely was around to direct on set towards the end, which is where Kingberg had to ghost direct few scenes apparently. Partly down to his sexual harrasment accusations that were building momentum but also because some of his ideas were rejected by Fox.
