and I think the reason they kept him around for so long was 'cause Marc and Wendy liked the actor and didn't want to get rid of him after they killed Laurel off and had Sara leave and join the cast of 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' but I think he was just hanging around most of the time as a background character who was there to be there and after Laurel died he didn't really have much of a purpose on the show. They tried to give him a purpose by pairing him up with Thea in Season 5 but I don't think that went the way they planned and the actress who played Thea was busy working on another show at the time so what could have been more of a longer storyline was dropped and then they put him with Black Siren this season. Amy Jackson will be back and I know for a fact she is going to appear in the final episode. 
Don't worry. I have seen the pictures of the final episode and a trailer for it and both Saturn Girl and Braniac 5 return. I think it must get to a point where they are outnumbered and Mon El contacts them and asks them to come back and help 'cause I can't see any other reason for them to return. What is really interesting is Amy has told fans she is going to be in the next season so I am curious to how they have her (and possibly Braniac 5) stay around. My guess is they come back to help and get stuck here and can't go back to the future. Hopefully they use this to give her the red and white costume and make her Saturn Girl!!
