Would Salzmank stoop to crime just to bring about more mystery and intrigue? As his oldest and dearest friend, I shall have to throw that ruffian and ne’er-do-well under the bus and happily admit that he’d do it in a heartbeat—albeit, unfortunately, not in this case, much to his everlasting shame.

Seriously, it’s probably Sammy (which I now propose we all call him henceforward), though he’s not saying it one way or the other. It would be very amusing if someone else is artfully impersonating the lad, but I can’t imagine who could do it that well; as you say, throwing in Sammy’s catchphrases would be too on the nose, but most impersonators would probably include it, so therefore I think it’s the boy himself. Dear God, that’s more complicated than it need be—a Salzmank trademark by this point, I think…
