My thoughts are similar to yours only I do think "smart" fans played a part in his poor booking by getting all pissy about him winning the rumble instead of Bryan in 2015. The guy was returning from injury: of course WWE didn't trust him to headline WrestleMania. But since that rumble win he's been booked very poorly.
