The problem is they don't know how to book Superman. Superman is not an underdog. He shouldn't be. He should be the guy who shows to stop the big bad monster when all other heroes have fallen. That's how Hogan was booked and why it worked well for him. Yes, he'd get beaten up, but he wasn't portrayed as the weaker one. Heck, Monsoon would call him the greatest professional athlete.
But now, WWE wants its stars to be both Superman and the Underdog.
And that was the foundation of the fans' hate toward Roman. After all, he was getting huge pops when he was the silent killer of the Shield. They knew he'd take care of business. But bad booking and the rise of Daniel Bryan (a more believable and lovable underdog) turned fans against him.
