(SPOILER warning for this version)
This version is by no means one of my favorites, but it's interesting if only because it's obviously the one that Tim Burton saw before making his version:
1. Making Crane a skeptic instead of a credulous coward? Check!
2. Setting key scenes in a snowbound forest instead of an autumnal village? Check! (though the main parts of Burton's movies are very autumnal)
3. Building suspense before getting to the story's general plot? Check!
3. Two headless horsemen, one fake (done by Brom), one real? Check!
4. Having Crane end up with Katrina instead of being "spirited away by the Headless Horseman"/ "become a New York lawyer"? Check!
Jeff Goldblum's Crane is OK, not distinguished but not bad, but I thought it funnier for the many moments in which he appears to be channelling Jim Hutton's Ellery Queen!
