I don't think it was, I think people are just still sour over Luke dying at the end instead of taking over the Sequels as the lead.

It sucked from the first dialogue exchange until the last.

The problem is not simply that Luke died or did little. It’s that what he did do was stupid and inconsistent. They didn’t even try to develop or expand his character. He was just there for stupid jokes.

It was a very bad film.
