There has to be permanent stakes. No there doesn't. Are there permanent stakes in James Bond movies? No, you always know he is going to live and save the world and he is still going strong after more than 50 years. I could list many other franchises too. Sure, but the heroes find a way to survive. If James Bond got killed in the middle of every James Bond movie, I don't know how excited the audience would be for his next adventure. And I'd like to think Marvel was aspiring to make something greater than a James Bond movie when they included a scene like Gamora's death. |
