Gosh and people wonder why the CW or CBS didn't go with that version of the character for a show aimed at teens and young girls.
Although blimey do I want to see a DC animated movie of THAT Supergirl because it sounds brilliant.
I think making a 'Supergirl' show aimed at a young audience was a mistake 'cause most of the 'Supergirl' comic books aren't for that audience and haven't been for a long time. They should have gone for an M rating at least or the same rating 'Supernatural' has 'cause that show gets away with a lot of things like that.

I don't disagree but it is a case of who was greenlighting this stuff, CBS isn't CW a lot of their shows for adults are tame and a bit silly, and they are who wanted Supergirl to begin with, they clearly wanted to attract a young female demo to their network and Supergirl likely made the most sense for what they could get, atleast to them because they could just do Superman in a skirt to attract young girls, which is annoying, mostly because it works, when the CW took it over they had the issue of it already having a sense and tone set up, they altered it how they could to better represent their network by making certain changes but still their working within the framework established, which is sad because fuck it CW you had Flashpoint you could have reengineered all these shows and made the first mass crossover fucking epic, but nooooo you had to go and....*20 minutes of ranting later*and that's why you don't deserve swamp thing CW, that's why!!...so where was I?
Oh yeah Supergirl, it is what it is, silly thing is for existing fans it's probably not a great interpretation of what it was originally but I imagine it has brought a lot more eyes to the character than the comics have managed to do in the last decade, so take the good with the bad, as for Supernatural they get away with a lot but because of context, Sam or Dean hell Crowley or Cas being dickish can be accepted because their fighting to stop Lucifer or this demon that Leviathan from destroying the world, consuming humanity and so on, Supergirl as you often describe her doesn't seem to often give a shit about humanity, so she kind of doesn't have the same lenience's applied to her behaviour, TV is weird like I recall a Carling interview or something where he said that you can and cant say the same word but in different context, like you could say "man I am so pissed off right now!, but you couldn't say when someone asks why "because you just pissed on my shoes", same with fuck and stuff, and something else but apparently on a WWE PPV years back Matt Hardy Vs. Zach Gowen caused the PPV to be rated higher simply because in their match & storyline Matt's behaviour wasn't shown leniency because he won, so it enforced a message that it's ok to mock and mistreat handicapped people so long as you can beat them up, which I find hilarious myself.
So Supergirl ripping off ppl's heads or heatvisioning their nuts for trying to rape someone is less excusable because she ultimately a lot of the time seems to hate humanity as much as the next villain, she just does it because she can, that's not a good message so it would probably receive a higher rating for certification, though fans would also rate it higher cause that shit sounds awesome.
