Why wouldn't WB let Snyder take his footage (already filmed) and just put 30-50 million into special effects to finish it?
Think about it. You put 50 million or so into letting him make 'his' true 3.5 hour epic vision of the film. Re-release it in theaters, it's going to make a guaranteed 200M domestically, because there are millions of fanboys crying for it. So they'll see it, curious fans who want to see the difference will see it, then those fanboys will see it again, about 3-5x in theaters.
Then release it on home video. Then release "Man of Steel' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Directors Cut" and "Justice League Zack Snyder Cut" in a box set.
WB would make a ton of money off of this. It would only cost them around 30-50M dollars. A lot cheaper than making a new CBM. It's nearly pure profit. Plus, it could be marketed as a DCEU Zack Snyder Trilogy set.
