Was Ron Howard Ever A Good Director?

I like EDtv, but it's a guilty pleasure, not great. It isn't remarkable, I believe any run of the mill director could have made it.

I hated Davinci Code.
I hated that Moby Dick movie.
I fell asleep during that racecar film.
