to add (3-2 v germany)- roy put some players on and these players will play well against good players - they know these players at European level and domestic and they want to play well against them .. so you dont really need a manager to gear them up in a friendly to beat Germany. These players know each other and they want to win (even if they may pull out of tackles early etc)

But it was Roys best performance and it didn't include rooney. and yet...... he was captain euro 2016...

If Southgate at any point plays rooney - then I will thing twice.
