When the 2022 World Cup was awarded to Qatar, I was the only one on the old boards who didn’t think it was a bad thing. I liked the idea of the World Cup going to a region of the world that had never hosted any of the two biggest sporting events before, I believed their promises that they would have a solution for the heat problem (something involving a stadium-wide ventilation system combined with a cooling mist of some sort), and I figured that if they were willing to spend an outrageous fortune building stadiums that were never going to be used again, that was their problem. Of course if I had known that they would use slave labour to build the stadiums, my opinion would have been different. That's why I gave a damn about the Blood Games of Beijing.
