Is it wrong to judge how people behaved in the past based on today's morals?

Not only in 1939. For centuries, it was moral in any society dominated by Christians to discriminate against Jews. We have people like Martin Luther to thank for that.

And today, there are still people who believe it's moral to discriminate against Jews. Examples: The BDS supporters, or some people in Palestine or Iran.
