I would think that one was fairly simple. Love. My Wife and I have been married twice now and have loved each other since we were kids but we had to fight to have our first marriage acknowledged here in Australia 'cause Same Sex Marriage was only legalised last year and we got married again (the first time in Australia) earlier this year and those of us who didn't have the same rights as everybody else and had to fight to get them don't take marriage for granted. From a legal perspective— and I can have an issue with some legalities and what they represent—it is nice that it is offered to any human union regardless of gender. But if one is to take marriage for granted, it would also depend on the individuals reasons for marrying and these would vary from one couple to the next. We can't really say if one is or isn't taking it for granted. I am not quite convinced, that marriage as it is defined today, is entirely appropriate or relevant from the legal aspect and whatever benefits it can endorse. People can still live the same lives, have children if they so choose, with or without all the pomp, ceremony and legal claptrap that comes with it.
