That's my concern...but again, I think Im right (going on memory) isnt Leonard a FA after this season!? Why would you ditch an insanely valuable piece on Demar for a guy who is probably going to LAL after this season. SAS just got a really nice piece in DeMar. I mean, they got the 7th seed without Leonard, now theyll have: Mills/Green/DeMar/Gay/Aldridge as their lineup (I believe). Im looking at this though I could be off: www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SAS/2018_depth.htmlI dont blame SAS for moving Leonard, hey Demar isnt chopped liver. Insanely solid piece. Yeah, the long term aspect of this deal seems to hurt Raptors. The only way Kawhi will stay at Toronto is if he has a very good year at Warrantor. Sportsmen usually do not want to change their teams when everything is going fine.
But kawhi may not necessarily have a very good season in 2018-19. Remember that he will stick to Toronto if he has a very good season and not just a good or satisfying season. So Raptors have got to wish that things go their way this season or next year they will be far worse off.
I agree with you that from POV of Spurs the deal may turn out to be good.
Not only that....Raptors seemed to have an issue, their weakness was the Lebrons Cavs. Well Lebron is gone. East is wide open. You got the one seed last year, and you give up Demar!? Leonard, IDK if Id even want him as a Rocket. I can't trust him but before I gave up DeMar I would have asked,"will you sign long term with us?" SO what could happen...Raptors lose Demar and could lose Leonard too. Is it championship or bust? I think this makes Philly the front runners now in the east.
