Smallville was I think the first live action show to do this, the 90's cartons for Marvel & DC both did this though also as Spiderman crossed over with X-Men & Iron Man, as well as featured appearances by Blade & Punisher, Hulk had a Ghost Rider episode iirc also, whilst Superman: TAS had appearances from Flash, Green Lantern, Batman and others I think, but nothing was as extensive as Smallville which is sad they never actually expanded on it, we could have had a JSA series, or Zatanna, Cyborg, Impulse and so on, sadly Smallville was right before the comic adaptation boom, if it had lasted 2 more seasons we likely would have gotten spin offs but CBM & TV shows just weren't "in" yet at the time.
I hope they introduce J'ohn's bro next season would make for a nice continuation from this season him having reunited with his father in a positive manner to then find his brother who hates him, they could do it and reveal it as he went insane in the time since the white martians attacked or that he's always been insane and was an ally to the whites because they were a means to the destruction he craved, as for RF I am with you they need to do something with him otherwise why bring him back and why keep him alive especially as "our" Eobard and not an alternative one.
