People are depressed because the world is not in a good state and by how many people choose to live. They're all working too hard to pay off debts because they were pressured by society and media into buying things they couldn't afford, and are living a very repetitive and boring life, going day by day at a job they hate just to keep up. Who wouldn't be depressed with that? Instead of fixing their problems naturally, they go to a shrink who will prescribe meds for a quick fix to help dull the pain so they can keep sticking to their repetitive and boring life in order to keep paying for all their iPhones and Disney movies. All the while the doctors and chemists are laughing all the way to the bank. It's very sad. The suffering in life needs to be addressed and numbing oneself down, is only burying it, not dealing with it. It is not going to go away by being precious and playing the victim. In the west, I think we have a culture of too much complaining and entitlement. People need to get out with nature and think about what could be worse and those that have it worse off. Get out and do something to contribute to others, or even help the more needy and unfortunate.
Many of those on prescribed medications, wouldn't have it so bad as they think they do. What is it that people really want? Life is life so live it, don't dull it. That is not to deny that some people may really need it, but that is more for the psychotic aspects behind one's behavior, not just feelings of sadness, anxiety and loneliness.
I have been in depressed states in my life, but I have never actively sought anti-depressants to help me deal with it. I just have had to feel it and work through it. Heck, cry if you want to, go to the forest and scream into the trees, go to the gym, do yoga and meditation, just do ones best to get over yourselves.
