Ike Perlmutter has a reputation of being being cheap, misogynist, racist and vindictive. If I were to call anybody a Dictator, which I wouldn't I would've put it on Perlmutter. I've posted this before but some of his highlights was: He complained about Disney's food expenditure for press. Result Journalist stole food from the 5 Year Engagement press catering during Avengers press because they ran out of food. He fired Terrence Howard to cut costs and replaced with Don Cheadle he told Andy Mooney that all black people look alike. Marvel had to settle suit with 3 former Black Executives because he called them The Help. Also told one of the women he had a bullet with her name on it. Ike routinely carries a gun on his person at work. He's big open carry guy. Tried to fire RDJ in 2014 because he was costing too much money. Technically Marvel has had the final say on script, story and costume on Fox films. He refuses to execute those rights because it would cost to much. Speaking of Fox he tried to negotiate with fox to put x-men and FF characters in MCU films. He low balled them and then kept on lowering Fox's financial cut while keeping Fox's responsibilities the same. Fox Backed out in response Ike cut FF comics and reduced X-men comics. Stating why should do free press for Fox. He cut out comics that were doing fine that people liked to spite Fox. He hated/has no faith female superheroes. He went on a rant on how female heroes are horrible during Sony Negotiations. Some of the frivolous examples of his cheapness are screaming at people and digging in trashcans after paper clips. Reports that you couldn't use new pencils until the old ones were less than inch long etc.
The 2014 RDJ situation and the rumor that Feige was close to quiting over it is what finally pushed Disney to move Feige out from under Ike and directly under Disney. I can't remember the complete quote but something to the effect that Feige was the most employable Producer on the planet.
Now some of the good things that Ike did. His cheapness and ruthlessness helped the MCU.
In the beginning in 2005 Marvel got 500m loan from Merrill Lynch to start Marvel Studios when they were pretty broke. The only thing they had to put up for collateral was the rights to 10 properties — Captain America, The Avengers, Nick Fury, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Cloak & Dagger, Doctor Strange, Hawkeye, Power Pack, and Shang-Chi — and if the Marvel Studios plan failed, they would lose the rights to every single one of those properties.
Marvel just got the rights back from New Line Ironman right after the Lynch deal was signed. As Ironman wasn't part of the original deal they couldn't use the $535m they got from Lynch to fund the movie. They had to use their own money. So Ike's cheapness was SOOOOO needed, but Marvel Studios wasn't Ike or Kevin's idea it was talent agent David Maisel's idea.
His shrewdness on contracts and business kept the Marvel Studios a float when it was young. And even before that he kept them making money from a company who had filed for Bankruptcy.
In general is sucks being the money guy the guy who has to say no, but it's needed. He deserves credit for what he has done. He also deserves the blame for what he has done too.
