I wasn't excited enough about the plot to see it in the theater. I have an awesome Element box loaded with Kodi which is a movie fans dream device as long as you have no problem with bending the rules. I'm straight up OG so I have no qualms with tweaking the rules. I am still a bit snobbish about film quality even when I'm streaming though so I rarely watch the bootleg quality stuff and wait for the dvd versions. Hmmm would that still be considered bootleg?
Anyway here's some thoughts and questions as Rouge wraps.
What is up with Felicity Jones teeth? The front two are insanely distracting. It's like they are not just buck but they are also huge. Are they some type of really bad implants? Does she have fewer teeth than most people or are the others tiny to compensate for those gigantic cue ball sized teeth? I mean damn they are weird looking.
I did like the overall downbeatness and general lack of cute goofy wisecracking characters. The skinny robot was sort of an exception. Is it a rule that all robots in Star Wars universe have to be effete, or snarky or designed with a plush toy in mind? At least he wasn't straight up comic relief.
Speaking of the lack of comedy, is Rogue the most depressing Star Wars movie ever? It looked like the most swarthy one as well. Even the Stormtroopers were dusky. Is definitely seemed like the most diverse. There was even a gay couple (maybe) ant they were the best 2 characters even if they were just straight dudes. A Zatoichi Jedi is cool as hell. Kind of a waste though.
The diversity does kind of raise a question though. Is it good or bad that the SW movie that seemed to consciously have a cast lacking in the usual Hollywood fair haired blue eyed pretty people also killed everyone off? Or does it not matter?
The highlight of the movie for me was probably Darth Vader going all hallway Oldboy but even more lethal. It's been a while since we got to see Vader be a bad ass. Overall the action scenes were good. Nice and violent and dark.
Even though it was superfluous I liked Rogue. I might like it better if I watch it again. Then again I might like it less.
