Would Star Trek be the franchise with all the rabid fanboys? Star Trek movies wouldn't have been greenlit without Star Wars. Apparently there were discussions prior 1977, & yet it was Close Encounters & Star Wars' success which allowed it. I do however wonder what genre might've been in vogue from 1977 onwards. Maybe we even get superhero era even earlier. Alien, Blade Runner, franchise toys, sci-fi video games... none of it without SW. Indiana Jones wasn't dependent on SW, so maybe we get more throwback heroes like Robin Hood or whatever. Diving deeper, I know Lego space was probably not dependent on SW, seeing as enough of it was about astronauts & rockets. Sci-fi as we know it today possibly stuck in NASA land.
