The fact that there is always the possibility if it being true is why I believe that petitions such as the ones in the link will not change anything. Disney is about trying to present a clean, family welcoming image and having somebody who has made such comments publicly is not welcomed - it doesn't matter if he was 100% joking, it doesn't matter how much he has changed since then, Disney doesn't want that on their shoulders and had him be fired. They wouldn't want to risk re-hiring him for Marvel Studios. Why did they hire him in the first place when they must have known about the tweets already? Wasn't made a big deal then. Most businesses don't react to the behavior or past history of an employee unless it stirs up controversy. Had nobody made a big deal about Roseanne Barr's tweet from late May she'd still have her show, but it stirred up lots of controversy and Disney fired her.
