Singer is a one-note filmmaker. you surely mean Gunn as a filmmaker is a one-note singer?
If you talk about Brian Singer his oeuvre includes hailed masterpieces and classics of all genres ranging from Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil or Valkyry to Bohemian Rhapsody. And he gave the world at least three (3) CBM masterpieces with X1, X2 and DofP - and these, while unusually deep and allegorical for CMBs - are far from his best films.
What did James "I got sensitive nipples" Gunn give the world? The raccon turd, Movie 43 and creepy child-rape comments, that's a sorry legacy only a fanboy could love.
Never said Gunn will go down as a master filmmaker. Well, not if his filmmaking ended today. But Singer is not some great filmmaker. You know who thinks so? Fox X-men movie fans. He's been riding that The Usual Suspects train for 2 decades. X1 was practically crucified for the direction he took it in. Especially with his hate for the X-men IP. I mean, he did initially turn it down until he realize he could allegorize it to the gay community. X2 was saved by Brian Cox and the opening. DoFP was him trying to get people to remember when they liked his movies. Valkyrie... heh. Singer is one-note because you can figure out what he's going to do in the movie before seeing it.
