"The Shell Seekers" by Rosamunde Pilcher, it spanned decades made me care about the characters and opened my eyes to whole new set authors i.e. Maeve Binchy
"Dream West" by David Nevin, a historical novel about John Charles Freemont, the man who really opened the West and who was supposed to run for President on the Republican ticket instead of Lincoln but was abandoned and ostracized when it was discovered he was a bastard child.
"The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" by T.E. Lawrence, I read this as a preteen when the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" came out and I wanted to learn more about the man
and anything written by Paul Gallico
p.s. I'm old too, I just turned 69 about 2 weeks ago, probably why I still read bound books
