... Hair traps dirt, oder, and bacteria, and creates unnecessary friction. It also can obscure what I’m trying to see. ... For whatever reason, during the ape-human evolution, most hair has been eliminated from the human body. There must be an evolutionary reason that mankind still has pubic hair down there, but I have no idea why. I was always told that it was a “secondary sex characteristic” and a visual indicator that a “child” (prepubescent) has transitioned to “adult” (post pubescent), and therefore ready and capable of being sexually active. As already mentioned, hair traps oder, and certain body oder is thought to be an aphrodisiac of sorts, to attract a potential mate. Now of course all of that means NOTHING in modern society since we have also evolved socially to include legal ages of consent which are not based on biology, but rather on perceptions of emotional and social development. Most “children” have pubic hair at 14 and 15 years old, but an adult pursuing one on this basis would be committing statutory rape. In addition, sexual psychology and society has also evolved to have different aesthetic preferences in terms of beauty, and place greater value on hygiene. We recognize that an adult woman (or man) who is clean shaven in the pubic region is not “a child”, but rather an adult who observes that personal sense of hygiene. So in a sense, we’ve disregarded the evolutionary purpose of pubic hair (any many other things) altogether.
