Cons: Writing is a bit contrived in respect to why they need to leave the planet. The whole reason why they go to Millers planet is flawed. The scientists dont act how scientists would act. There are character inconsistencies with their behaviour, especially Murph and why she resents Cooper as an adult.
Pros Fantastic visuals Intense final act Amazing action with score (docking scene) Murph-Cooper chemistry was on point and believable Lots of well directed and acted emotional scenes Interesting from beginning to end even though its long runtime That is explained while she was a child. He resented that he left and as time went on and it looked less likely he would come back, it became ingrained. Basically, he lied to her and chose the mission over her.
The Miller planet one is a flaw from a purely pragmatic sense which I think is very much intentional. The movie spends a great deal of time showing the inherent conflict between scientific research and decisions based on emotion. The entire movie is about that imo until the two can merge to create a solution.
Even if the planet had extreme time dilation, it was closest, it had a signal, and if they got in and out, based on Plan A, it could still be a planet that could be settled...Although unlikely to ever leave.
